Use of external fixation for perilunate dislocations and fracture dislocations

The purpose of this study was to review clinical and radiographic outcomes of perilunate dislocations and fracture dislocations treated with external fixation and K-wire fixation. Twenty patients (18 males and two females) with a mean age of 38 years (range 18-59) who had an acute dorsal perilunate dislocation or fracture dislocation were treated with the use of wrist external fixator and K-wir...

Arthroscopic treatment of perilunate dislocations and fracture dislocations.

Background The key to a successful result in the treatment of perilunate dislocations (PLDs) and fracture-dislocations (PLFDs) is the restoration of normal alignment of the carpal bones, followed by stable maintenance until healing. This article aimed to assess whether arthroscopic techniques are a reliable surgical option for the treatment of this challenging injury. Materials and Methods Twen...

An unusual variant of perilunate fracture dislocations

Trans-scaphoid, trans-radial styloid, trans-triquetral perilunate fracture dislocations are rare. We describe a 19-year-old male who suffered this injury after crashing his bicycle. He underwent open reduction internal fixation and percutaneous pinning. Scaphoid union was achieved at 8 weeks. Near complete range of painless motion was achieved by 4 months.

Perilunate dislocations.

THE PATIENT A 37-year-old man injured his right wrist in a motor vehicle collision. In the emergency department he had severe wrist pain and median nerve paresthesia. Wrist radiographs identified a dorsal perilunate dislocation (PLD) with the carpus dislocated dorsally and the lunate tilted volar but still located in the lunate fossa. Post-reduction computed tomography scan confirmed no fractures.

Dynamic intradigital external fixation for proximal interphalangeal joint fracture dislocations.

PURPOSE Many skeletal traction devices have been described to treat fracture dislocations of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint. Most of these techniques are technically challenging or involve cumbersome frames. We present a design modification that enhances the stability of a simple dynamic fixation system described previously and report our results with this technique. METHODS A previ...
